To ensure the development and sustainable management of forests and forest rangeland in Tunisia, the General Directorate of Forestry (GDF) is preparing its third national strategy for the period 2015-2024. The process is being supported by the regional project GIZ-CPMF. The strategy which includes an action plan aims at conserving and valuing the goods and services of forests and forest rangelands, with the purpose of enhancing the socio-economic well-being of forest communities, curtailing the loss of biodiversity and contributing to climate change mitigation.

In the framework of the CPMF steering committee and the session of the Silva Mediterranea committee, in Hammamet, Tunisia, December, 2-4, 2013, the sustainable financing of forest related activities in the CPMF countries has been put in question. Given the uncertainty of the continuation of the current financing resources, the development of an adapted financing strategy beyond 2015 is a crucial necessity.
